Cuomo Increases Maximum Capacities of Indoor and Outdoor Arenas

“Play ball, it’s opening day,” said Randy Levine the president of the New York Yankees said this morning at Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s press conference.

After pointing out that the COVID numbers “are dramatically on the decline,” and have plummeted to levels that the state has not seen since before the surges brought by increased winter holiday gatherings and travel, Gov. Cuomo announced that sports venues’ ability to accommodate a 10% maximum capacity has “been a success.”

On April 1, outdoor sports arenas will now be allow to bump up their maximum capacities dramatically, when venues with 1,500 indoor capacity will be allow to fill stadiums to a 10% capacity.

Sports venues with 2,500 outdoor capacity will be now able to accommodate a 20% capacity.

Sports fans, however, will have to provide proof of negative COVID tests or proof of vaccination.

In mid-May, the governor said, maximum attendance in sports venues will be reevaluated.

“Let’s get back to life and living,” the governor said. “Let’s get that economy running.

“We have to start thinking spring, reuniting New York and those social bonds that connect us and that we thrive on,” the governor said.
