Cuomo Eliminates Quarantine for New Yorkers After 2nd Shot

Yesterday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its guidance that previously required a 10-quarantine period of for people who had been exposed to anyone with COVID-19.

New Yorkers for whom two weeks have passed after receiving their second shots, no longer have to quarantine after being exposed to anyone who is suspected of having the COVID-19 virus.

A two-week waiting period is required because health experts have said that the immunity to COVID-19 does not fully develop until two weeks after those who are vaccinated receive their second shots.

In New York state, where more than 1,738,927 million residents have received their first vaccine shots, and 602,328 New Yorkers have received both of their shots, Gov. Andrew Cuomo just eliminated any quarantine requirement for any fully vaccinated, asymptomatic people who have had exposure to others who are infected with COVID-19.

Although New Yorkers will not have to quarantine after two weeks after receiving their second shot, Gov. Cuomo reminded those who are vaccinated to continue to wear masks and to remain socially distant.

“The science regarding COVID transmissibility post-vaccination remains unsettled, and this updated guidance is not an all-clear for New Yorkers to let their guards down,” the governor said.
