Cuomo Clarifies: Order Closing Schools Includes Private Schools

New York – Gov. Cuomo signed an executive order closing all schools in New York state, including private schools such as yeshivas.

The order was announced on Monday morning but was unclear if it including private schools or just public, as a similar order by Mayor Bill de Blasio on Sunday night did. A clarification issued to local school boards charged with enforcing the order Monday afternoon said that it included yeshivas.

Most yeshivas have already closed on Sunday after de Blasio issued his directive. About 15 percent remained open on Monday. They will have to close on Tuesday as per Cuomo’s new rule.
