Crane Splits I-Beam on Brooklyn Bridge

by Mindy Cohn
A crane on a barge struck the Brooklyn Bridge as it was being transported Wednesday morning, damaging an I-beam.
The incident happened on the East River around 8:30 a.m. as the barge was passing under the bridge. During passage, the crane struck a maintenance track system located under the bridge.
The damage was only to the track system and not structural, so it is business as usual for traffic crossing the bridge.
The incident remains under investigation.
