Costco Requires All Shoppers Older than Two Years Old to Mask Up

By Yehudit Garmaise

Costco has revised its COVID-19 health protocols, and as of Mon., Nov. 16, the store will require all customers, who are older than two years old, to wear face coverings while shopping.

Customers who cannot wear face masks due to medical conditions must wear face shields, said Costco’s CEO Craig Jelinek, in a statement.

Since May 4, Costco was among the first large companies to require shoppers to wear masks, however, members who could not wear a mask due to medical conditions were exempt from the rule.

“This is no longer the case,” Jelinek said. “If a member has a medical condition that prevents them from wearing a mask, that customer must wear face shield at Costco.”

Jelinek understands that Costco’s updated policy may seem inconvenient to some customers, however he said, “We believe the added safety is worth any inconvenience.

“Our goal is to continue to provide a safe shopping environment for our members and guests, and to provide a safe work environment for our employees.”
