Cory Booker Drops out of Presidential Campaign

On Monday, Democratic presidential candidate Cory Booker dropped out of the campaign due to financial issues.

“It’s with a full heart that I share this news — I’m suspending my campaign for president,” Booker tweeted. “To my team, supporters, and everyone who gave me a shot—thank you. I am so proud of what we built, and I feel nothing but faith in what we can accomplish together.”

He added in an email to supporters:

“Our campaign has reached the point where we need more money to scale up and continue building a campaign that can win — money we don’t have, and money that is harder to raise because I won’t be on the next debate stage and because the urgent business of impeachment will rightly be keeping me in Washington.”

Booker secured a lot of support in New Hampshire including at least 100 endorsements.  Three of the endorsements included state senators-Jon Morgan, David Watters and Martha Hennessey in addition to 17 New Hampshire House members.

His initial supporter in New Hampshire was a veteran strategist and former Barack Obama campaign co-chair Jim Demers.

Booker was viewed as a rising star with a lot of potential for nomination.  He had the tools and inspiration to be a competent contender.

He ends his campaign in a 90-second video where snippets of his campaign trail are shown, urging unity.  He repeats the mantra of his campaign as the message of the video “rise together”.

He then says, “Today, I’m suspending my campaign for president with the same spirit with which it began. It is my faith in us, my faith in us together as a nation that we share common pain and common problems that can only be solved with a common purpose and a sense of common cause.”

At the end of the video, Booker says, “We may have challenges as a nation, but together, we will rise.”
