Controversial Brooklyn Yards Housing Project Receives Approval

By Idy Perl

The controversial Brooklyn Yards housing project has officially received approval from the city council’s zoning committee.

Although many steps still need to be completed before the project appears in Boro Park, this marks a significant step forward for a once-dreamed-of vision.

As reported by BoroPark24, the innovative project will be built on a platform above the freight rail line on 14th Ave and 60th Street. The project will encompass 14 buildings with a few hundred units in the Boro Park neighborhood.

Many Boro Park residents are wary about the impact the development will have on the local neighborhood. Although the project will help mitigate the current housing crisis, some wonder why alternative solutions couldn’t be found.
