Construction Unions Hold Rally to Demand Increased Funds for Roadways and Bridges

by Mindy Cohn

Local construction unions are demanding more support for roads and bridges, pointing to the lack of funding that has resulted in the deteriorating infrastructure conditions in the Hudson Valley over the past ten years.

Construction unions across the Hudson Valley are rallying at the Teamsters Local 456 Union Hall on South Central Avenue in Elmsford to demand an additional $400 million to be earmarked for the New York State Department of Transportation to go toward roads and bridges in the region including the George Washington Bridge and the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge. An additional $250 million in aid is also part of the request to address local needs and offset inflation.

The unions are additionally creating awareness of the disproportionate allocation of funds that go to the  Hudson Valley, which has the most lane miles and bridges in the state while receiving only the third-highest amount of funding.
