Con Edison Proposes Preposterous Price Hikes For NYC Residents

By Idy Perl
NYC’ers who are already complaining about the high cost of living won’t be too happy to hear what Con Ed has been up to.
The soaring energy bills in NYC might jump by double-digit percentages next year as Con Edison is currently seeking approval from the state to increase electric bills by approximately 11.4% and gas bills by 13.3% for next year, according to a proposal released last Friday.
Con Ed claims that the extra funds, which would amount to more than $2 billion, are needed to help them maintain and expand their infrastructure, which provides most of the city’s electricity.
A spokesperson for Governor Hochul said that the governor opposes the proposal or any effort to increase the cost of living for New Yorkers and is directing the Department of Public Service to thoroughly scrutinize the request.
