City Blames Slower FDNY Response on Traffic

FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh spoke during a safety briefing at City Hall last Friday, and blamed the slower response times of the ambulances and fire trucks of her department on the number of cars congesting the roads. She also blamed an increase in 911 calls for the delays.
She added that the department is looking to solve this issue with the use of technology.
These remarks come following Mayor Adams report that showed that response times were on average 9:52, up from 9:43 in October of 20232—crucial seconds that are being lost in emergency situations.
Kavanagh noted that the FDNY is partnering with researchers at NYU who are looking into AI technology which would tell first responders the safest and fastest route to an emergency.
