Chaos Ensues in The Capitol After President Trump Holds Rally to Dispute Election Results

Lawmakers were told to take shelter today when a showdown with guns drawn by both police and supporters of President Donald Trump took place inside the U.S. House of Representatives today, according to reporters, who did not immediately note any injuries or shots fired.

   So much for losing gracefully.

An hour before the results of the 2020 presidential election were to be legally certified, President Trump delivered a fiery speech about “how the election was rigged against him” during a rally on the Ellipse in Washington, DC. Shortly thereafter, thousands of Trump’s supporters, some of whom were armed, broke through a fence, pushed past police, and stormed the entrance to the House of Representatives, to disrupt the joint session of Congress.

After President Trump’s supporters, some of whom were carrying American, Confederate, and Trump flags, overpowered the police and broke into the chambers of the U.S. House of Representatives, an armed standoff ensued, and the building was forced to go into lockdown.

One reporter tweeted that a protester made it all the way to the dais, where the Speaker of the House and other top elected official sit, and declared, “Trump won that election.”

Other protesters made their way onto the building’s balcony, where they draped a Gadsden flag, which is often used as a symbol for gun rights, American patriotism, individual liberties, and disagreement with government intervention.

The yellow flag, which was designed in 1775 during the American Revolution, says, “Don’t Tread on Me,” and it depicts a coiled rattlesnake that is ready to strike.

After the protesters had been in the building for some time, Trump tweeted his support for law-enforcement.

“Please support our Capitol Police and Law Enforcement,” the president wrote, after the damage was done. “They are truly on the side of our Country. Stay peaceful!”

    But chaos prevailed.

“Hundreds of Trump supporters have stormed the barricades at the back of the Capitol and are marching toward the building,” tweeted Washington Post reporter Rebecca Tan.

“Protesters are charging toward the Capitol steps. Some tried to scale the construction structures and have been tackled by police. They want to enter the building and are making attempts at intervals. Capitol police trying to hold them back.”
