CDC Considering Requiring Masks Again, as COVID Cases Soar

By Yehudit Garmaise

An alarming number of Americans are once again getting infected with the COVID-19, and the availability of our vaccinations make this “predicament unnecessary,” said Anthony Fauci, MD, the director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, who added that the US government’s leading public health officials are “actively considering” whether to recommend that vaccinated Americans again put on their masks, as Los Angeles already called on its residents to do.

A combination of the highly infectious Delta variant and the unnecessarily high number of unvaccinated Americans are what is driving the nation’s soaring COVID rates, Dr. Fauci, who also serves as the chief medical advisor to the president, said this morning on CNN.

Despite the wide availability of three different COVID vaccines, only 49% of the eligible U.S. population, has been vaccinated, according to data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

“This is an issue predominantly among the unvaccinated, which is the reason why we’re out there, practically pleading with the unvaccinated people to go out and get vaccinated,” Dr. Fauci said.

While speaking about the slow increase of COVID cases in New York City, last Thursday, Dave A. Chokshi, MD, the city’s health commissioner, warned, “If cases continue to go up, we will see hospitalizations go up as well, usually that lags by a few days to a couple of weeks.

“The number-one thing that can both interrupt the spread and prevent those most severe outcomes is vaccination.”

"The right answer overall for our city is achieving full vaccination, and we're absolutely committed to acheived this standard," said Mitch Katz, MD, the CEO of the New York City's Health + Hospitals.

Vaccine resistance, however, "has hardened in certain elements and is simply false information,” said Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, who also spoke on CNN this morning. [The misinformation] is myths."

Gov. Hutchinson sadly reported that he has heard people in town meetings calling the life-saving vaccine a “bioweapon.”

“And they talk about ‘mind control,’” said Gov. Hutchinson, whose state is among those with the lowest vaccination rates. “Well, those [ideas] are obviously erroneous. Other members of the community [have to] correct that."

“What I would really like to see is more and more of the leaders in those areas that are not vaccinating to get out and speak out and encourage people to get vaccinated,” said Dr. Fauci, who said with frustration, that without the country getting vaccinated, "We’re going in the wrong direction.”
