Catskills Traffic Nightmare Averted Thanks to Intervention by Community Groups

The “Four Corners” intersection in Fallsburg is likely one of the busiest during the summer season—with travelers from numerous parts of the mountains passing through.
Plans had been in place for the ongoing construction to continue through the summer. These plans include the institution of turning lanes on both roads, and changing the traffic signal infrastructure, which would ease traffic and make things safer once completed.
However, the Jewish Community Council of Sullivan was concerned that the improvements in the long term would cause a traffic nightmare for this summer, as the work calls for complete closure of the road at times.
The DOT agreed to halt the major work from July 4 until Labor Day, with some work taking place on the shoulders during weekdays, and Friday work—a far busier traffic day— taking place overnight Thursday nights.
