Catskills’ Most Dangerous Intersection to Receive Significant Safety Upgrades

Catskills’ Most Dangerous Intersection to Receive Significant Safety Upgrades

By Yehudit Garmaise

Just in time for the summer season in the country, the New York state Department of Transportation will begin construction that “addresses safety deficiencies,” at the Catskills busiest intersection: “the Four Corners,” the DOT told Fallsburg property and business owners in a letter last week.

Fallsburg residents, both full and part-time, were relieved to hear that the state’s DOT will soon begin construction at the meeting place of Route 42, Brickman Road, and Old Falls Road: through which thousands of community members drive every day.

By the end of May 2023, the project aims to create turn lanes on all three roads, replace the traffic signals and add pedestrian signals, repair the shoulders, and install additional sidewalks, the DOT wrote in its letter.

As a result of the roadwork in Fallsburg, drivers may be slowed down by some closed lanes and shoulders, at which workers holding flags will be stationed to direct traffic.
