Brooklyn’s Zone Changes from Red to Orange
By Yehudit Garmaise
Gov. Andrew Cuomo just announced that the lower COVID positivity rates have allowed Brooklyn, Orange, Rockland, and Broome counties to exit their status as red zones and switch to orange zones, which means that schools and non-essential businesses must remain closed, houses of worship can allow up to 33% capacity or 25 people, and restaurants must continue to serve take-out only.
Data show that the
positivity rate in Brooklyn still hovers just above 3%, while the state’s
positivity rate shows to be just more than 2%.
Although the
governor said that efforts and restrictions to reduce COVID cases appear to be
working, the state is, unfortunately, seeing rising numbers again, and he fears
for a second wave.
Gov. Cuomo said that
he will continue to enforce mandates and restrictions as the state tries to
reduce COVID positivity numbers again.
