BPJCC to Assist with $9,000 Retroactive Reimbursements from FEMA for COVID Related Funeral Expenses

Brooklyn, NY— The BPJCC has announced its newest effort in assisting the Boro Park community. With FEMA’s recent announcement of a new application process for individuals to recoup up to $9,000 of COVID-related funeral expenses, the BPJCC had undertaken this new initiative to guide the community through the process.

“Given the extensive suffering COVID-19 has caused,” says Avi Greenstein, BPJCC CEO, “we want to be there to help alleviate the suffering in whatever way we can. This funding can lighten the burden for grieving families who have already gone through so much.”

FEMA (the Federal Emergency Management Agency) will reimburse up to $9,000 of funeral expenses for funerals that took place after January 20, 2020. The death must have occurred in the United States, including the U.S. territories and the District of Columbia. The death certificate must indicate the death was attributed to COVID-19. The applicant must be a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or a qualified alien who incurred funeral expenses after January 20, 2020. (There is no requirement for the deceased person to have been a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or qualified alien.)

“The BPJCC will facilitate these applications in whatever way we can for the community,” says Greenstein, “as we continue to seek out ways to relieve the pain and suffering brought about by COVID-19.”
