Boro Park Women Can Relieve Physical Pain by Accessing Their Emotions Through Writing

By Yehudit Garmaise

For three years in a row, Miriam Brieger, who owns The Gift Place with her husband Eluzer Brieger, woke up every morning with extreme headaches that did not get much better until late afternoon, and even then, unfortunately, she felt an extreme heaviness in her head.

“When I went to sleep at night, I knew with dread, that the next morning, I would be waking up with a headache,” said Mrs. Brieger, who explained that she tried Motrin, hot compresses, and even Botox injections before she heard that Rav Elya Katz, the menahel of the beis medrash of Yeshiva Torah Vodaath in Flatbush, gives free lectures on a drug-free pain-relieving method that was developed by John E. Sarno, MD, who wrote best-selling book, The Mind-Body Prescription.

Rav Katz has been giving his lectures on the pain-banishing methods after wife successfully used “the Sarno method,” to end years of being tormented by excruciating back pain 14 years ago. Many, many Yidden are among the thousands of others who stopped painful musculoskeletal pain disorders, such as arthritis, headaches, and back pain, by using Dr. Sarno’s innovation for patients to use writing to identify possible anger, guilt, anxiety, or sadness that might be lurking in their unconscious and causing physical pain.

The method of Dr. Sarno, who was a professor of rehabilitation medicine at New York University Medical Center’s Rusk Institute, is to set aside time every day: 15 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening to make lists of every possible feeling and incident that might be causing psychosomatic pain.

Although Dr. Sarno’s methods did not work right away for Mrs. Brieger, she said that after booking a one-on-one consultation with a lady in Boro Park who advised people on how to apply the innovative methods, four days later, her headaches were completely gone.

“I did the Dr. Sarno techniques for three days and three nights,” Mrs. Brieger remembered. “I woke up the fourth the morning, and I immediately realized that, for the first time in three years, I did not have a headache. It was literally a neis. There was nothing like that fourth day when I woke up completely clear of any pain.

“I know it sounds crazy, but these stories happen when people use Dr. Sarno’s methods, which really help a lot of people.”

Mrs. Brieger was so happy and grateful for her success and passionate about the Sarno method that she wanted to help to spread the word for people who need it. After training for a year in Dr. Sarno’s methods and also taking a Life Coaching course with Rabbi Shalom Storch to better assist people who feel pain, Mrs. Brieger now charges $150 for one 90-minute session in which she teaches and explains the method, and also checks back in with clients with two follow-up phone calls.

“I try to help people to go in depth to determine what exactly they can do to get relief from their physical pain,” explained Mrs. Brieger, who has been helping women in the community to end their pain for the past eight months. “I break down Dr. Sarno’s method step by step so people can understand and do it. I give tips on how people can determine any emotions that are inside them that they are not realizing and recognizing. Baruch Hashem, a lot of people are helped after they identify their unconscious feelings.”

Women who would like to call Mrs. Brieger for personal consultations on how to use the Sarno Method can call her at (917) 830-3807.
