Boro Park Snapshot: Royal Clothing

Royal clothing was founded in 1985, by Avraham Schwartz. Before Royal, he worked at Broadway Clothing for 8 years giving him prior experience to opening his own shop.
Stores aren’t around for 35 years without good reason. Royal
Clothing prides themselves on quality and workmanship. What you buy here, comes
out cheaper than anywhere else because it lasts incomparably longer. Yossi Schwartz, Avraham’s son who he
is in business with, says, “we have men coming in to shop for their chosson
wearing the same bekitche they bought here back when they got married.”
The craftsmanship is unreal, each item perfectly made.
Part of the charm is having been around for so long in the
same location. The store is at the convenience of 1316 48th street.
Every season Royal Clothing displays 15 new styles of bekitches and suits, after carefully choosing from over 100 designs. If those options aren’t
enough you can also have something custom made.
Royal has their collections made overseas but for immediate
service on alterations the store has 5 on site seamstresses.
“Every day here is an interesting experience,” says Mr. Schwartz “something particularly interesting is my goishe clientele. They find
us online and come in for custom suits and even sometimes bekitches.”
Royal carries a full line of rebeshe garb. They have made
custom orders for Reb Shloma Bobov Z”L, the Vishnitz Monsey Rebbe Z”L, the Pupa
Rebbe Z”L along with many others. He visits their homes to take their
measurements so that they don’t have to come into the store.
Mr. Schwartz, a Pupa Talmud, remembers once after delivering
the new bekitche to the Rebbe, to show appreciation, the Rebbe gave Avraham his
old bekitche which is very precious to him.
People come from all over to buy from Royal Clothing,
including Monsey, Monroe, Williamsburg and even across the Atlantic from Israel
and London. Mr. Schwartz has customers from the UK that have accounts with him.
He has their measurements on file and when they want to place an order he
emails a few designs to choose from and has it made for them. He has also shipped
to customers in Australia.
Royal Clothing was open during the lockdown. However, Yossi
said that Pesach time, when in previous years has been extremely busy, it was
very quiet. But now in the summer, when it usually is empty, this year B”H they
are very busy. “The bashefer feert the velt” he says.
Mr. Schwartz has a famous line perfectly summing up what the
store is about, he says “A royal is about quality and that is what we provide.”
