Boro Park Residents Fed Up With Ongoing Street Closures

By Idy Perl

Boro Park residents are growing increasingly frustrated as construction projects keep popping up around Boro Park and disrupting the flow of traffic. During the hectic back-to-school and pre-Yom Tov season, Boro Park residents are having to deal with multiple street closures, detours, and the resulting traffic.

In addition, many of the construction projects begin with little to no prior notice to the community. Because no, putting up a sign the day before construction begins to warn the residents of the block not to park there isn’t really helping anyone; these street closures affect the entire neighborhood, not just the people living on the specific block.

"We are well aware - and appreciative to the city for this - that during the summer weeks, many construction projects take place when our neighborhood is relatively empty," one resident wrote to BoroPark24. "However, we are now 2-3 weeks into the new season, our streets are busier than ever, and these construction projects all over the place are just unbearable."

In recent days, some of the streets that are closed due to construction were 56th St between 12th and 13th Ave, 15th Ave between 60th and 62nd St, 48th St between 11th and 12th Ave, and 15th Ave by 48th St. These street closures are all causing chaos and traffic in the neighborhood and residents are fed up.

The city has got to do better at communicating and providing sufficient notice before a project begins and needs to take into account the other projects happening simultaneously and how to minimize disruptions to local residents.
