Boro Park Man Scammed Out of Thousands of Dollars Following Computer Hack

In a stark reminder of the times we are living in during this digital age, a Boro Park man lost $20,000 to hackers this week after they hacked into his computer.
“A message popped up on his computer, telling the victim to call a certain number in order to activate his computer,” a member of Shomrim told BoroPark24.
The victim spent 45 minutes on the phone with the people on the other end who demanded $20,000 in order to reactivate his computer. They met on 20th Ave., took the money, and over $600 in gift cards.
As soon as the money was handed over, the phone numbers went dead, and the scammers were never heard from again—leaving the victim in shock, with $20,000 less in his bank account.
Shomrim is currently combing through the footage in an effort to identify and locate the scammers.
Shomrim would also like the public to know that legitimate Microsoft technicians will never ask for cash payment, and will certainly never come to your home to take the money. The public should be aware and very wary of scammers who target unsuspecting individuals, in such and many similar ways.
