Bird Flu Shutdown Poultry Markets

Egg prices are skyrocketing, and bird flu is the main cause. While bird flu outbreaks are not new, the current wave is particularly severe.
New York has ordered the temporary shutdown of 80 poultry markets across the city and surrounding areas in response to the H5N1 strain. This follows the culling of millions of chickens nationwide, pushing egg prices up more than 100% since 2023.
With supply remaining tight and demand continuing to rise, it looks like the price hike is here to stay.
