Bikur Cholim Offers Moderna Vaccines to Holocaust Survivors this Friday and Sunday

Bikur Cholim has secured another block of appointments to administer the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for Holocaust survivors and other seniors in need who live in Brooklyn.

The vaccination event will take place Friday, March 19 and Sunday, March 21 at Abraham Lincoln High School, which is located at 2800 Ocean Parkway.

Readers can make appointments by calling Mrs. Eisenberg at (718) 438-2020, Ext. 7408, or by e-mailing [email protected].

Since the beginning of New York City’s vaccination effort, Mayor Bill de Blasio has tried to better reach people who are most vulnerable.

“One of our particular efforts has been to reach folks who went through some of the most horrifying events in history: Holocaust survivors,” Mayor de Blasio said this morning at his morning press conference.

Yesterday, the mayor said he “had the honor of being with some of [Holocaust survivors] “when he visited at “a wonderful Passover food distribution organized by the Jewish Community Council of Coney Island [JCCCI]: an amazing organization.”

“Rabbi Moshe Weiner, [JCCCI’s executive director] and everyone there, I appreciate the great work you do,” said the mayor, who then recounted a conversation he had yesterday with a Holocaust survivor who “just deeply moved” him.

“Sarah Teichman, is a 95-year-old woman, born in Poland, and her family and she ended up in the Bergen-Belsen camp,” the mayor told reporters this morning. “She told me about her experiences. She told me what she went through and she told me what life was like when she was freed and how she came to this country and found here in New York City everything she hoped and dreamed of.

“She got vaccinated through our special effort to reach Holocaust survivors. And the joy she was feeling was so powerful, knowing she was safe.

“It's very life-affirming to know folks that went through so much are here with us alive, well, filled with life and hope: an amazing, amazing experience.”
