Biden and Other Officials Praise Cuomo for Stepping Down, Some Praise Accusers for Speaking Out

President Joe Biden, who called upon Gov. Andrew Cuomo to resign seven days ago, today said, "I respect the governor's decision."

“Our view is this is a story about these courageous [people] who came forward, told their stories, shared their stories and an investigation overseen by the attorney general that of course concluded today in an outcome that the president called for just last week,” said White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, who added that Biden has not spoken with the governor and that the White House received no advance notice that Cuomo would resign.

Lurking in the background of Biden’s approval of Cuomo’s decision to step down, are eight similar grievances that were alleged against the president before he was elected in 2020.

"My heart is with the brave Cuomo survivors who endured attempts to discredit them like I did coming forward about Joe Biden," one of Biden’s former staffers who has accused him told Fox News today. "May there be some measure of justice for the survivors.

“Now, let's call for a real investigation into Joe Biden and expose the corruption protecting powerful predators."

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (NY-D)and Sen. Kristen Gillibrand (NY-D), who had twice issued joint statements that called for Cuomo to step down, both said that the governor “made the right decision.”

Other elected officials, as well, from both sides of the aisle, in New York today agreed that Cuomo did the right thing.

Although the governor both defiantly claimed innocence and that the allegations against him were “politically motivated, unfair, and untruthful,” he did show mercy on the state of New York by acknowledging that his impeachment would drain time, energy, and taxpayers’ money that should be used for COVID relief, to fight the Delta variant, and to end gun violence.

This current trajectory [of impeachment] will create months of legal controversy that will lead to months of litigation and cost taxpayers millions of dollars, the governor said today before resigning, which will go into effect in 14 days.

“The government needs to perform and function today: It is a matter of life and death,” said Cuomo, who was once so popular, he was considered an alternative Democratic presidential candidate to Biden. “Wasting money on operations is the last thing state government should do.

“I should not be the cause of that.

“I would never want to be unhelpful in any way.”

“Today closes a sad chapter for all of New York, but it’s an important step towards justice,” said New York Attorney General Letita James, who on Aug. 3, released a report that found Cuomo had violated state and federal laws by harassing 11 staff members, nine of whom were state employees.
