Beware Of Illegal Towing Charges

By Y.M. Lowy
Brooklyn drivers, take note! Complaints about illegal towing charges are on the rise with some companies overcharging and issuing fake receipts to customers.
Many Drivers remain unaware of the strict pricing regulations towing companies must follow.
Under the Directed Accident Towing Program (DARP), towing companies are legally required to charge specific rates: $125 for vehicles weighing 10,000 pounds or less, $140 for those over 10,000 pounds, $25 per day for storage during the first three days, and $27 per day after that.
It's crucial to stay calm during such situations and always verify that the charges align with the accurate and legal rates.
If you have been overcharged, report it to the Department of Consumer Affairs at (212) 639-9675
