BDE: Reb Yechiel Duvid Lev, z”l

We are saddened to inform you of the passing of Reb Duvid Lev, a pillar of the Gerer community in America. He was 83 years of age.
The niftar was born in Yerushalayim in the year 1939 to his father, the legendary Gerer chossid, Reb Aaron Lev, z”l, who has thousands of descendants within the chassidus today. A number of the Lev brothers came to America, where they were legendary ba’alei tefillah, including Reb Duvid z”l.
He became a shochet in Denver, Colorado, where he earned a respectable parnasah. But when his children were growing older, he consulted his rebbe, the Beis Yisroel of Ger, who instructed him to move to New York for the chinuch of his children. Without thinking twice, he picked up and moved to New York, into the unknown.
He was one of the pillars of the Gerer chassidus in America, where he established a beautiful generation, and was part of the “flagship” 49th Street shtiebel, the first Boro Park shtiebel of Ger.
He worked for many years in the food business, and was known as a ba’al tzeddakah. He was also a well-known shadchan who made hundreds of shiduchim over the years.
The levaya will take place today at 11:00 at Shomrei Hadas. Kevurah will be in Eretz Yisroel.
