BDE: Reb Velvel Fernoff z"l

Boro Park – Reb Velvel (Arye Zev ben Yitzchok Dovid) Fernoff z”l, a well known and beloved Boro Park resident, was niftar today at age 89.

The niftar, a meis mitzvah with no known relatives, was known for walking into shuls and asking people if they lived in Boro Park. He was a well known figure in the neighborhood.

The levaya will take place at 10:30 Sunday morning at the Munkatcher beis medrash on 14th Avenue and 47th Street. Kevura will follow at the Chesed Shel Emes beis hachaim in Woodridge.

Little is known about Reb Velvel, although he was said to have once worked in the U.S. Post Office on 8th Avenue, near Boro Park.
There’s also a beis medrash in Williamsburg that uses a sefer Torah he donated several years ago.
