BDE: Reb Shaul Drummer, Z"L

  We are saddened to inform the community of the petira of Reb Shaul Drummer, Z"L, who was 97 years old.

     Mr. Drummer, a Satmar Chassid, survived Theresienstadt after being separated from his parents, Reb Shmiel Drummer, a”h, and Mrs. Baila Drummer, a”h, 11 siblings, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins, who were all tragically killed in Auschwitz. Mr. Drummer had reported that he felt lucky to have been in Theresienstadt, which the Nazis used a “model camp” as propaganda to falsely show the Red Cross that they were treating the prisoners fairly. Mr. Drummer also felt lucky that he was able to sneak in food.

   Mr. Drummer was born in Satmar, Romania, in 1923, where he briefly returned after the war before moving to B’nai Brak for eight years. However, Mr. Drummer and his wife Gittel, a"h, moved to Boro Park in search of better educations for their three children, two of whom were deaf.

    Once in Boro Park, Mr. Drummer, first owned a children’s clothing store before working during the week for 20 years as the head mashgiach for Empire Kosher in Mifflintown, Penn.

    “My father-in-law was full of life," said Mrs. Suri Drummer. “He loved life, he loved his children, and he never, ever complained.”

    Mr. Drummer’s levaya will take place today at 4pm in front of the Magareten shul, where he davened for 60 years, and which is located at 14th Avenue and 54th Street. His kvrua will take place in Kiryas Joel in Monroe.
