BDE: Reb Mordechai Anshel Lax, z”l, longtime Hatzolah volunteer

We are saddened to inform you of the petirah of R’ Anshel Lax,a pillar of the Viznitzer community in Boro Park, and dedicated Hatzolah volunteer, known as B36. He was 55, and he had been battling the dreaded machlah, R”l, but had been doing better.

Viznitz coursed through his veins. His father, Reb Chatzkel Ber Lax, the shammas in the Viznitzer Shul in Williamsburg for decades came from a family of Viznitzer chassidim in Hungary. The niftar was raised in Williamsburg, and learned in Monsey, in the Yeshiva of Rebbe Mottele of Viznitz—with whom he became mekushar with every fiber of his being.

He served as the longtime ba’al tefillah for pesukei d’zimrahevery shabbos, and it would be with the Viznizter bren and hartz. In recent years, the current rebbe appointed him the Baal tefillah for the children’s minyan every Yamim Nora’im.

Anshi worked as a manager at Park Lumber on 38th Street, and so many who knew him from the businesses in the area recall “a real gem, a precious, tayere Yid, who carried a perpetual smile and would do anything for anyone.”

His passing came as a shock to so many who knew and loved him. The niftar was predeceased by his parents, Rev Yechezkel Dov and Hendil Lax. He leaves behind his wife, tbl”ch, Mrs. Chana Lax, and a beautiful family.

The levaya will take place Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m, at the Vizntzer Shul on New Utrecht and 53rd Street, where the niftar davened for years. From there the aron will proceed to the Viznitzer beis hachaim in Monsey for burial.
