We regret to inform you of the passing of Reb Chaim Dovid
Mordechai Goldstein, z”l, a ba’al teshuvah who experienced a tumultuous
life—and returned to a life dedicated to Torah and mitzvos which were an
inspiration to all who knew him. He was 68 years of age.
He was born and raised in East New York to a family that
arrived in America prior to WWI, and succumbed to the nisyonos of
America, affiliating themselves with the Conservative movement.
He lost his beloved mother at the young age of thirteen, and he went to say kaddish for her neshamah throughout the year of aveilus.
He faced many challenges and hardships throughout his life. After a difficult period, he was sentenced to twenty years in prison and spent time in three different prisons. However, it was in that darkness that he found light. He returned to his roots, dedicating himself to Torah and mitzvos. During this time, he was visited by numerous Admorim and Rabbonim, and upon his release, he emerged as a full-fledged ba’al teshuvah.
He lived the rest of his years in Boro Park, and was a familiar figure in the community. His davening and learning was with extreme devotion, and he was close to many in the community.
Reb Chaim Dovid Mordechai was niftar in a sudden manner on
