BDE: Reb Avrohom Yosef Rosenberg, z”l

We are saddened to inform
you of the passing of Reb Avrohom Yosef Rosenberg, z”l, a longtime resident of
Boro Park, at the age of 95.
Not only was he born in America—and clung valiantly to Torah
and Yiddishkeit—but so were both of his parents. His paternal grandfather
served as the Shamass of the Ohev Shalom Shul on Varet Street in old
Williamsburg. The family’s roots in America were defined early on by their
mesirus nefesh for Shabbos and shemiras hamitzvos.
Avrohom Yosef was born in 1926, in Athens, Pennsylvania, and
then the family moved to Patterson, New Jersey, where he went to Cheder. In
Patterson, he was the Ba’al koreh in the small shul in the larger Shul where
the family davened. Many years ago, he told a grandchild “I served as a ba’al
koreh for sixty years.”
Years later in Boro Park, he would serve as the ba’al koreh
at the Predawn Minyan at the Vasikin Shul, and then trek to the Cong. Torah
Utefillah Shul on Fort Hamilton Parkway for a second laining.
He came to learn in New York, where he became a talmid
muvhak of Rav Moshe Feinstein—with whom he remained close for all the years.
Reb Avrohom Yosef spent his life around seforim, publishing
and disseminating Torah. He published his own mikro’os gedolos, worked for Judaica Press in translating many
works, and worked for Artscroll Publications for many years. He was known for
his exceptional middos, and deep eidelkeit.
With his passing, he leaves behind a beautiful Torah family,
and a legacy of a young boy born in Patterson in the 1920’s who clung fervently
to the ways of Torah and Yiddishkeit.
The levaya will take place at Shomrei Hadas on Sunday
afternoon at 5:00.
Yehi Zichro Baruch.
