BDE: Reb Avrohom Bodenstein, z”l

    We are saddened to inform the community of the petira of Rabbi Avrohom Bodenstein, z”l, who was 80 years old.

    Rabbi Bodenstein, a Skolya Chassid, who was born in 1940 in Chicago, was the son of Reb Yaakov Bodenstein, a”h, and Mrs. Esther Leah Bodenstein, née Devoken, a”h.

  After learning at the Telz Yeshiva in Cleveland, Ohio, Rabbi Bodenstein traveled to B’nai Brak, where he learned in the Slabodka yeshiva. A longtime rebbe and menahel, Rabbi Bodenstein, a started out his 50-year chinuch career teaching at a boys’ Bais Yaakov in Chicago, and later taught in schools in Lakewood and New York.

   “He was a very warm person, and had strong relationships with his talmidim,” said one of Rabbi Bodenstein’s five children, all of whom he raised in Boro Park, where his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren now live. “Over the years, I have heard many nice things about my father from his many students.”

  For many years, Rabbi Bodenstein was the menahel at the Skoyla cheder before working for 13 years at Tzion Yeshiva Shaarei in Highland Park, NJ. In addition, Rabbi Bodenstein spent 20 summers as a rebbe at Camp Agudah. After retiring, Rabbi Bodenstein spent hours learning b’chavrusa and at shuirim.

   After Rabbi Bodenstein’s first wife, Mrs. Sarah Bodenstein, née Grossman, a”h, passed away 17 years ago, he married Mrs. Fraidel Katz.

    Rabbi Bodenstein’s levaya will take place at 11am at the Skolya shul, which is located at 1335 48th St, and his kvura will take place at Mt. Judah Cemetery in Cypress Hill, Queens.
