BDE: Rabbi Yehuda Oelbaum, z”l

YS GOLD

We regret to inform you of the passing of Rabbi Yehuda Oelbaum, z”l, a born and bred Boro Park resident, a world-class mechanech and askan in the community. He was 90 years of age, and he dedicated his life to chinuch.

Rabbi Oelbaum was born in Brooklyn 90 years ago, and was a talmid in Yeshiva Torah Vodaath.

His career in chinuch began at a very young age when he attended Camp Agudah, and served as a Pirchei leader in the Boro Park Zeirei Agudah Shul, as Rabbi Avie Gold remarked:

“The leader of our Pirchei minyan was Rav Yehudah Oelbaum, the world-renowned mechaneich. Rav Yehudah taught us to view the world around us through “Torah spectacles.” For the information of the contact-lens generation, the term “spectacles” is a much older word than “eyeglasses.” Much of the success of the chinuch institutions in America is the result of people like Rav Oelbaum and Rav Trenk and all the others. Pirchei and Zeirei members who took their Yiddishkeit and Torah learning seriously and influenced many others to join them.”

Rabbi Oelbaum founded Machon Beis Yaakov High School in Boro Park, and for four decades, the school served as a shining beacon of chinuch in molding the daughters of Klal Yisroel into ehrliche yirei Shomayim.

Rav Yehuda ascend to Shomayim with decades of work in chinuch, and leaving behind a beautiful Torah family.

The Levaye will take place 11:30am at Shomre Hadas. To watch it live click here.

Yehi zicrho Baruch.
