BDE: R’ Yaakov Yehuda (Leiby) Freund, z”l

YS GOLD
We regret to inform you of the untimely petirah of R’ Leiby Freund, a well-known and beloved personality in the Boro Park community. He was 54 years of age, and had battled an illness in recent weeks.
The niftar grew up in the Satmar kehillah in Boro Park, and learned in the Boro Park Satmar mosdos. He was the son of, ybl”ch, R’ Moshe Yochanan Freund
He married, ybl”ch, the daughter of R’ Chaim Friedman, and settled in the Kensington neighborhood of Brooklyn. This was when he joined kehillos of Krasna (where he was the longtime, beloved, and devoted gabbai) and Alesk.
As a communal person, he was extremely well-liked and honest to a fault. He owned the Corner Café establishment on Ditmas Avenue for many years, and customers and associates alike knew and admired him.
He loved Torah, and established many shiurim in different shuls.
A longtime friend recalls that R’ Leiby “Never hurt anyone, was respectful to all, and he was in turn well-respected.”
He was unwell since the summer, and was diagnosed with an illness six weeks ago, leaving behind beautiful Torah generations, with children who are bnei Torah, living in Lakewood and Eretz Yisroel, and grieve this loss tremendously.
The Levaya will take place in front of the Krasna Shul at 10:00 this morning.
Yehi zichro baruch.
