BDE: R’ Noach Dear Z”L. Brooklyn Supreme Court and Longtime councilman

We are saddened to inform of the petira of Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Noach Dear Z”L.

R’ Noach was a longtime councilman who represented Boro Park for over 15 years.

R’ Noach worked as a commissioner of the Taxi and Limousine Commission, was a member of the New York City Council and a district manager for the Kings County Community Board 12.

He was elected to the New York City Civil Court of Kings County in 2008 and was elected an acting supreme court justice in 2010.

In the last few years, Judge Dear found himself in the position to assist many people who found themselves in severe financial difficulty due to financial debt involving predatory lenders. As an acting Supreme Court Judge  many of these foreclosure cases involving the biggest financial institutions came before him. Community Leader Chaskel Bennett tells BP24 that Judge Dear went way out of his way to help those downtrodden individuals, often putting his own career on the line. "His knowledge of the court system and his willingness to assist the most vulnerable despite the political risks to him personally make his loss that much more painful."

Bennett puts Dear's career as an effective public servant in perspective, "this is a man who never forgot who he was representing and never stopped caring about them. Throughout every step in his career,  Noach Dear used his skill, his knowledge & compassionate heart to help the people who needed him the most."
