BDE: R’ Avrohom Yaakov Kushner, z”l

We regret to inform you of the passing of Rav Avrohom Yaakov Kushner, z”l, a talmid of Rav Aharon Kotler, zt”l. He was a longtime Boro Park resident and was in his upper 80’s. 

The niftar was a longtime rebbi in Yeshiva Torah Vodaas. Over the years he taught in the first grade, 3rd grade, and fifth grade—and, “no matter which grade he taught, he was always known for his exceptional warmth to the talmidim, and to anyone he encountered,” recalled one rebbi who taught alongside him for many years.  

In the summers he was a rebbi in Prager’s Bungalow Colony, and here too, he brought his trademark varemkeit that left an impact on the talmidim for many years. 

As noted, the niftar was a talmid of Rav Aharon Kotler, zt”l, in Lakewood, and recalled many details from those exalted times to the end of his life. He was one of the founders of the Lakewood Miyan in Boro Park. He was a ba’al koreh mumche, for many years, the ba’al tokeah mumcheh in Lakewood Minyan. 

The levaya is taking place this morning at Minyan Beis Medrash Govo’ah.
