BDE: Mrs. Ednah Wassertheil, A"H

We are saddened to inform of the petirah of Mrs. Ednah Wassertheil, a”h, the wife of, ybl”ch, Reb Shauli Wassertheil, highly regarded members of the Gerer community in the United States, who resided in Boro Park for decades.

 She was 62, and had courageously battled the bitter machlah for six years.

 Raised in Williamsburg to her parents Reb Moshe Menachem and Devorah Tirnauer, and married, ybl”ch, Shaul Wassertheil.

 In addition to being longtime mispalelim of the Gerer shtiebel at 51st Street and 16th Avenue (which also houses the legendary Gerer Kollel, under teh leadership of Rav Elya Fischer), the Wassertheils were beloved mispalelim of Rav Bick’s Shul, Nachlas Moshe, on 19th Avenue.

 Reb Shauli would be known to our readers, if not by name, through his legendary marketing work within our community, producing such events as the Agudah convention, the Camp Expo, a number of other important events—and the power behind some of the legendary brands we know and love.

 Together, the Wassertheil’s built a beautiful family.

 “She was the most giving person, always b’hatzneiah leches, in hidden manner,” recalled one person who knew her well. She did not stop giving to everyone, even when she was physically unable to do so.”

 “There was no stopping her when it came to doing chessed—for those she knew, and for complete strangers,” recalled another acquaintance.

 Rav Bick, the Rov of the Nachlas Moshe Shul, recalled that she was a person who always had her senses up for the needs of others, in the material as well as the spiritual realms. Her spearheading of the effort in the Ezras Noshim not to talk during davening was just one example.

 The levaya will take place this morning at Khal Nachlas Moshe, 19th Avenue and 52nd Street, this morning at 10:30.
