BDE: Mrs. Adele Mermelstein A"H

Boro Park - We are saddened to inform of the passing of Mrs. Adele Mermelstein, who survived the Holocaust and rebuilt her life in New York. She was 90.

Mrs. Mermelstein, whose Hebrew names was Chana Nicha, was a longtime resident of Boro Park. She was born in 1930 in Romania to Reb Shmuel and Devora Weinberger. She was sent to Auschwitz with her family during World War II, but managed to survive the horrors there along with her sisters.

Adele Weinberger then headed to the Displaced Persons camp in Bamberg, Germany, and then immigrated to the United States where she married Reb Shulem Mermelstein.

Mrs. Mermelstein gave an interview to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, in which she exhibited a rock solid Emunah in Hashem and His ways.

She and her husband helped establish the Boro Park Bikur Cholim, from which they devoted their lives to chesed and helping others. He also was director of the organization’s chevra kaddisha. Reb Shulem was niftar seven years ago.

Mrs. Mermelstein passed away on Monday afternoon at Maimonides Medical Center. She is survived by a son and daughter.

The levayah will take place on Tuesday morning at  10:00 A.m in  Shomrei Hadas
