BDE: Legendary Chabad Chossid and Mashpia, Reb Pinye Korf, z”l. Levaya in Boro Park

We are saddened to inform you of the passing of Reb Pinye Korf of Crown Heights. He passed away this morning at the age of 86. He was the main mashpiah of the Lubavitcher Yeshiva Tomchei Temimim in the “zal” in 770, and influenced thousands of bachurim throughout the years, through his transmission of chassidus as well as his incredible demus of a chossid who served his Creator with temimus.

 Reb Pinye was born in the town Kharkov, Ukraine, to his father, Reb Yehoshua Korf, a distinguished Chabad chossid. The family clung to Yiddishkeit with great tenacity during the Communist rule, and were fortunate to escape Russia, making their way to a DP camp following the war.

 He was one of the first students of the reestablished Yeshiva Tomchei Temimim, and upon arriving in America, he began serving as a mashpiah, first in Newark, and then in Crown Heights for the last fifty years.

 In addition to his temimus and bittul, middos and humility (he would go out along with the bachurim to help place tefillin on Yidden), he also went regularly to teach chassidus to people in different communities, such as Boro Park and Williamsburg.

 His name is synonymous with his dedication to this cause, and his legacy will be felt among Chabad chassidim for decades to come.

 The Levaya is tentatively at 2:00 in Shomrei Hadas in Boro Park, and from there to Crown Heights, from where it will be interred in proximity to the ohel in Old Montefiore Cemetery in Queens.
