Attorney General Letitia James Hosts Roundtable with NYC Jewish Leaders

Attorney General Letitia James held a roundtable discussion with NYC Jewish leaders, including Rabbis heads of national and state Jewish organization, Hatzalah, Shomrim, and senior officials from the Attorney General’s office.
The meeting took place at the Attorney General’s office and was organized by Yoel Lefkovits, Director of Jewish Outreach + intergovernmental affairs and Alyson Spindell, Director of Community Affairs & Engagement
The discussion focused on current events, pressing community issues, antisemitism, and the needs of the Jewish community. Leaders and the Attorney General explored ways to work together for a stronger and safer community.
Rabbi Chanina Sperlin, a Crown Heights community leader, said, “Attorney General James has proven herself to be a great friend of the Jewish community and a courageous advocate in the fight against antisemitism and all forms of hate and bias.”
Satmar Community Leader Rabbi Moshe Indig said, “It means a lot to the Jewish residents of New York to see an Attorney General who deeply cares about our community and is always ready to stand up for us and all New Yorkers. We appreciate the fact that she stands strong as a champion against antisemitism as well as knowing we have a listening ear with her office, as demonstrated by the meaningful conversation that took place here today.
Rabbi Yeruchim Silber, Director of New York Government Relations, Agudath Israel of America added Attorney General James has always been a voice of clarity against anti semitism. Particularly gratifying to us is her battle against onerous zoning regulations that seek to halt the growth of Orthodox communities. Today's dialogue was an important step in reinforcing that commitment
Josh Kramer, Regional Director for AJC New York: AJC deeply appreciates Attorney General Letitia James for convening this roundtable with Jewish leaders. At a time of heightened antisemitism, her leadership and willingness to engage with our community are more important than ever. We commend Attorney General Letitia James for standing with us and taking meaningful action. We were proud to share AJC’s recently released State of Antisemitism in America 2024 Report with the AG's office and appreciate her dedication to ensuring this data informs her work and the broader New York community.
“Thank you Attorney General Tish James for always standing up for the Jewish community and all communities, fearlessly fighting antisemitism, zoning and housing discrimination, and hate wherever it exists,” said Rabbi David Niederman, president of the United Jewish Organizations of Williamsburg and North Brooklyn. “We had an amazing discussion on a range of issues impacting the community, and it was refreshing to hear the Attorney General responses, how she continues to be eager to stand up for us
