Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein presented BoroPark24 photojournalist Zevi Klein with an award citation for his quick thinking and bravery during a two-alarm fire in Boro Park.
The fire broke out at an apartment on 20th Avenue and 52nd Street after a resident returned home and spotted flames on the roof.
Zevi, who was first on the scene, immediately jumped into action. Despite his role as a journalist and his goal of getting good coverage, his priority was rescuing a family from the spreading flames, ensuring their safe escape. One by one, he helped each family member escape the growing fire, ensuring they were safely brought to his car to shield them from the harsh rain and cold. No injuries were reported thanks to his swift response.
“Zevi showed true courage and compassion when he rushed into a building to rescue a family from a devastating fire with little regard to his own safety,” said Assemblyman Eichenstein. “I am delighted to honor him with this citation in recognition of his bravery. He is a true hero.”
"It was nothing more than a detailed plan from Hashem that I should arrive at that exact moment of the fire," Zevi Klein said following the honorary event. "Taking the lead and rescuing one family member after another was the least I could do to ease their pain and emotional distress in such a terrifying situation."
"I am truly grateful to our beloved Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein and his team, especially Shloime Rieger, for this citation. It is a true honor and a lasting message that I will never forget," Zevi concluded.
Zevi’s bravery that night went beyond the call of duty, demonstrating how one person’s quick thinking and courage can make all the difference in a critical situation.
