Assemblyman Felix Ortiz Loses Primary Battle

Assemblyman Felix Ortiz, who currently serves as the Assistant Speaker of the New York State Assembly represented parts of Boro Park since 1995, has lost his primary battle against newcomer Marcela Mitaynes.
Ortiz served as an Assemblyman for the 51st Assembly district that included a small portion of Boro Park around 10th Avenue and the 40’s.
On Election Day Ortiz was ahead with a low number of votes, but after counting the absentee ballots, Ortiz has conceded the election.
“The votes have been tallied and the people of the 51st district have elected Marcela Mitaynes to represent them in the New York State Assembly,” Ortiz wrote on Facebook.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the people of my community in the New York State assembly for 26 years. I’m proud of my record and the accomplishments we’ve achieved together for our community and our state,” he wrote.
