By: Charnie Kohn
And just when you thought that every single hamentash has been done before, I come to you with this tasty, original and absolutely gorgeous Asian Beef Hamentashen!
1 large onion, diced
1 teaspoon sesame oil
2 frozen garlic cubes
2 lbs ground beef
2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
A pinch of crushed red pepper
1 pack mini pizza rounds, defrosted
1 egg
Sesame seeds
Chives for garnish (optional)
Oil for sautéing
****
1: In a large pan sauté diced onion over medium high heat until golden. Add the garlic cubes and the sesame oil and sauté for an additional thirty seconds
2: Place the ground beef in the pot and break up in to little pieces. Let it cook until no longer pink
3: Add the hoisin sauce, soy sauce, brown sugar, salt, ginger, black pepper and crushed red pepper flakes. Mix well until incorporated
4: Place a bit less than a tablespoon of the beef mixture on to each pizza round. Fold in the sides to form a triangle and pinch the corners together
5: Whisk the egg and gently brush the dough with the whisked egg. I prefer to use a paper towel for this step. Dip the paper towel and brush the dough. Sprinkle with sesame seeds
6: Place the hamentaschen on a greased pan and bake in a four hundred degree oven for fifteen to twenty minutes or until golden. Garnish with some chives
