250 Neglected Buildings Targeted for Major Repairs

By Y.M. Lowy
New York City is targeting 250 poorly maintained buildings with 7,000 apartments and nearly 54,000 unresolved violations. Issues include mold, lead paint, heat outages, and broken security doors.
Some buildings in Boro Park are on the list, including those at 3619 15th Avenue, 1142 42nd Street, and 1621 65th Street.
These buildings are now in the city’s Alternative Enforcement Program, which increases inspections, fines, and legal pressure on landlords. Some owners already owe nearly $3 million for emergency repairs the city had to make.
Landlords need to fix violations to get off the list, or face tougher penalties.
