2025: NYC DOT to Implement More 20 MPH Speed Limits

By Y.M. Lowy
In a recent tweet, posted this morning, the NYC Department of Transportation stated, “We’re putting the 20 in 2025. By the end of this year, hundreds of locations across the city will have a reduced speed limit of 20 mph.”
This initiative, aimed at improving street safety, is part of the city’s broader efforts to reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities. By the end of 2025, the DOT plans to implement reduced speed limits of 20 mph in at least 250 locations across the city, focusing on areas with higher pedestrian traffic, including school zones and Open Streets.
This reduction in speed limits is a part of the Vision Zero plan, which seeks to eliminate traffic-related fatalities and promote safer streets for all.
