Gerrer Talmud Torah Imrei Emes Holds Annual Dinner in Boro Park

Boro Park – The Gerrer talmud Torah Imrei Emes held their annual fundraising event in Boro Park on Motzei Shabbos, days before the yahrtzeit of the Bais Yisroel zt”l.

The dinner was opened by Rabbi Avrohom Schmidt, the menahel of the yeshiva, who thanked the assembly for showing their support with their presence and expressed his appreciation for those who helped organize the event.

Following the introduction, Rav  Chaim Cohen, the rav of the Gerrer kehilla in Flatbush, led participants in reciting several kapitlach of Tehillim as a merit for a refuah sheleima for the celebrated chassid Reb Yechiel Benzion Fishoff and Mrs. Liba Werdiger, the mother of philanthropist Reb Shlomo Werdiger.

Rav Chaim Pomerantz Shlita, from Yerushalyim, delivered the birchas kodesh of the rebbe shlita. He then elaborated on the zechus the cheder has to be named for the Gerrer rebbe, the Imrei Emes zt”l. A beautiful video of daily activities in the talmud Torah was played, depicting the devotion each rebbi has for his little charges and the interactions between rebbi and talmid.

The crowd was then shown a fascinating video presentation of the sainted Imrei Emes and the town he led, Gura Kolowari in Poland. Before the presentation, Rav Yaakov Abramowitz recalled the powerful words of Rav Aharon of Belz zt”l, who told the Imrei Emes when they met in 1944, “Gerrer rebbe, your bochurim were mekadesh Shem Shamayim!”

“Today as well,” noted Rav Abramowitz, “whoever comes into the talmud Torah and watches how children and bochurim review tens of dafim of Gemara by heart leaves in astonishment of the daily kiddush Hashem. We could also say, ‘Gerrer rebbe, your bochurim are being mekadesh Shem Shamayim today as well!'”

The audience was rapt for the entire hourlong presentation, which featured rare historical footage, accompanied by the narration of historian Rav Nechemia Blustein of Bnei Brak. He skillfully brought the Boro Park crowd into the life and time of Gur of yesteryear.

The chassidim then sang the traditional songs for Motzei Shabbos, followed by a video tribute to the unforgettable rebbe, the Bais Yisroel, whose 43rd yahrtzeit is this Thursday. The highlight was the broadcast of audio of the Bais Yisroel himself, calling on his chassidim to teshuva.

The special guest from Eretz Yisroel, Rav Yitzchok Braude, was honored with leading the benching, which was followed by a spirited dance over the evening’s success.

A raffle at the event ended with 35 winners who were presented with round trip tickets to Eretz Yisroel to bask in the rebbe’s presence this Shavuos.
