Fines for Alternate Side Parking Violations Rising in NYC

New York – Be prepared to shell out an extra $20 for blocking street cleaning operations.

The sanitation department tweeted on Thursday that violations of the city’s alternate side parking regulations is going up to $65 on Feb. 20. The fine for parking in designated cleaning spots and “blocking the broom” in New York City is currently $45.

Many streets have alternate side regulations, which allow for street cleaning. Most alternate side parking signs are clearly marked with signs featuring a “P” crossed by a broom. Some areas have three-hour restrictions (e.g. 8 am to 11 am) but times vary considerably.
