District Attorney Eric Gonzalez collaborated with NY Community Board 12 to present the community with a Pre-Hanukkah celebration on Monday, December 11. The event took place in the Reiger hall at the Bnos Zion Building. Luzee’s Catering provided delicious food and refreshments for all. The Master of Ceremonies was Ari Farkas, assistant district attorney for Eric Gonzalez. Yidel Pearlstein, chairman of NYC Community Board 12, gave the opening remarks. Joel Deutsch put everyone into the Chanukka spirit with an entertaining musical performance. Chief Chaplain of the NYPD, Rabbi Alvin Kass spoke about the meaning of Chanukka to the assembled, which was followed by a keynote address given by Hon. Judge Rachel Frier, the first Chassidic woman judge to be elected. Closing the event was District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.
“What inspires me in the Jewish community,” said Gonzalez, “is ‘the idea that we need to take care of each other'” He finished off with wishes for a happy Chanukkah.
